On April 10, 2025 Charles Maraziti presented a wonderful account of Civil War hero Corporal Charles Hopkins, Mr. Maraziti's great grandfather. Mr. Hopkins kept a detailed diary of events that occurred during his enlistment, starting in 1861 just after Fort Sumter until his internment and release from the prison at Andersonville in 1865. Also included in Corporal Hopkins diaries was information on the underground railroad in Boonton NJ beginning in 1856 when Charles was 14 years old. The lecture was enjoyed by all who attended especially since Mr. Maraziti is a direct descendent of Charles Hopkins.

We Need Your Help The Squan Beach Life-Saving Station will serve as a unique, historic focal point for the Borough of Manasquan as well as a destination for those who are interested in maritime history. As other stations in the state have succumbed to demolition and new development, or private homes and clubs, Manasquan has taken advantage of this wonderful opportunity to secure ownership and open it to the public honoring its role in this seaside community. |
